Ifrit is obtained early in the game when you are taken to the Fire Cave along with Quistis to take a little SeeD pre-test. You have to venture through the Fire Cave, and at the end of it, you engage in a fight with Ifrit. He's not too tough at all, especially against Shiva's ice powers, because he's Fire Elemental. Ifrit levels up pretty quickly after you get him, and that's good. He'll be a frequent in battles early on, but eventually he'll get less effective. His Ammo-Refine ability will be useful if you plan on using Irvine's limit break a lot.
